Pink Rosebud #1
Watercolor on Paper
9 x 6
Donated
“Rose Bud #1” is an original water color painted on 140 lb. cold pressed watercolor paper. One in a series of flower paintings that investigates the possibilities of the loose technique of watercolor, for Jeanne, this painting is an exercise in freedom: freedom from the tightness in artwork to which she has been accustomed, and freedom from local color. The background in the photograph that was used for reference was of a medium value, evenly dispersed sky blue. Jeanne wanted to add visual interest to the basically simple form, so she created a color-rich, mysterious environment for the rose bud.
The inspiration for this image came from a photograph of a rose bud taken by Jeanne in the Paoli Presbyterian Church’s Rose Garden.
The original watercolor has been donated to the Support Center for Child Advocates [http://advokid.org]. Note cards and variously sized reproductions of this image are available for purchase by the artist.
